GOOD WORK

by themirrorandreflections

Hello, TMAR tribe member! It’s been two whole weeks of being away from your screen and space, and this is officially the first blog post for the month.🤦🏽‍♀️ Thank you for bearing with the inconsistencies these past few weeks and for always being present, I assure you that we’re back on track now and moving forward.

To make up for the absence during these past weeks and seeing as Worker’s Day was celebrated this month, this post is to recognize and also admonish every worker out there. Whether you are self-employed or you work with a Governmental or Non-Governmental Establishment, your impact and contribution to society cannot be overlooked at all.

Also, since this post is coming when Nurses’ Week has just been concluded, and seeing as the writer is a Nurse😁, permit me to celebrate myself and other Nurses for the great work we have been doing in the health sector. If you are not a Nurse, don’t get jealous! Kindly remember to reach out to your Nurse friends and appreciate them for what they do for you.

There is always a reward for every labour, whether good or otherwise. Also, when the issue of rewards is addressed, different things come to mind; salary, wages, benefits, incentives, promotions, and other remuneration and compensation forms that we can think of. However, as good and encouraging as these may be, there is much more to our rewards as workers.

Rewards can come in the short-term, but there are equally rewards for the long-term, some of which would even travel far beyond our existence and long after we’ve left the scene. For these rewards to be the exceptional ones we have hoped for and a mode of blessing to even generations after us, we must seek to do good work while still serving.

Our service in any capacity that we find ourselves will not be effective, praise, or emulation-worthy unless we journey with the right mindsets. These mindsets will guide our actions and inactions as they keep us on track and in line with what is acceptable while helping us stay away from inappropriate means.

Therefore, for the work to be good, we must remember that we are working first as God’s representatives, and all our services are unto Him. Do you remember what Colossians 3:23-25 says? Don’t worry, I’ve got you! I’ll bring it right here!

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism”. (NIV)

I dare to tell you that the above words were not just channeled towards our service in church or religious matters, but they are also to guide our conduct in other areas of daily living. We are to stand out in excellence and character, bearing in mind that we are not just standing in for ourselves. We must not fail our God brand!

Good virtue does not just come to display overnight or suddenly appear in your work routine, it has to first be internalized to become a part of your value system. This implies that there is an image you need to have first as a person before that identity can be replicated as part of your work ethic. Now, here’s the question, what value systems do you want to be known for?

Were you able to successfully answer the question above? Wow, you even made a list! That’s so cool! Now, we can make progress! Do you see those good values you penned down? Be resolved to stand firmly in upholding them without compromising, even if it means you are standing alone!

Many times, we are guilty of going the wrong way or choosing the wrong things not because we are unaware they are wrong, but because it’s what the multitude is going for, and the ‘wrong’ has been made popular. However, the fact that the ‘wrong’ seems to have become the norm and is winning the vote does not make it right or acceptable. Therefore, keep yourself rooted in what is good, and be known for it.

The beautiful thing about getting good work done is that you can rely on your Father’s help. Yes, you are determined to be known for excellence and stellar performances, which is a great stance to have! However, where do you draw strength from at those periods when you feel worn out, probably due to other stressful events in your life?

This might not even be a case of going through a bad time. You might be in the middle of a creative process and on a journey of birthing a phenomenal project, but then, the idea seems not to be adding up. Well, may I tell you something? That area of your life interests God too, your intellectual performance is of importance to Him!

Tell me, who is as detailed as God is? The attribute of paying attention to details in any human finds its source and draws from One- GOD. Have you read the accounts of building Noah’s Ark and the template given to Moses about the Tabernacle’s construction? Also, do these two names, Bezalel and Oholiab in Exodus 35:30-35 ring a bell to you? Yes, they were talented men, but guess who the Brain behind their talent is!

If you have at one time or the other read these accounts, it will take you on a journey to wonder about the awesomeness of your Father. This is to remind you to commit your ways, plans, ideas, and entire being into the hands of that Master Builder. You can always be assured in knowing that He delights in every detail of your life, including your job.

Do you know what else will give you a thumbs-up? It is to be a blessing to everyone around you! Make the environment a safe space for those in your work circle, and get rid of the toxic culture. Don’t be that human people will be hoping not to run into in a bid to ensure peace, or be paired with to work on something together. Do all from the standpoint of love!

In the same vein, let respect for all be your watchword, no matter their place or position on the organogram. Everyone is important to the organization and the work process, each person has a unique role that they bring to the table. You have been called to different assignments, yet, each office or role is designed in such a way as to foster teamwork and dependence, and to build a strong work setting. Therefore, appreciate the contribution that people make and don’t rule it out as insignificant or little.

As you keep up with the good work that you do, leave a good mark behind, one that will be remembered even after you have left. It is not good enough that you leave the setting and the culture you’ve embodied over time travels out with you. Ensure that the good legacy is replicated and passed down to the people coming behind.

Here’s the final point; you are not carrying out an unseen mission! No matter what you do, be it good or otherwise, you are being observed. While people might not be all set out to monitor your performances, yet, you will be surprised to hear the minute details they will mention if they are asked to say a thing or two about you. However, let this not be your drive or motivation to do well. Give what you do your best because it is what you represent, first as a person.

Yes, I’m so happy that this note has come together eventually, despite the odds! Did any part of the post resonate with you? Kindly share them with me in the comments, I’d really love to read your thoughts. I promise that the next post will be available in a week from now, yes, I said it! Till then, keep up the good work!❤️
