THE RIGHT SIDE (2)

“Save your breath for the wise–they’ll be wiser for it; tell good people what you know–they’ll profit from it” (Proverbs 9:9, MSB).

Hello, dear reader. I hope you’ve been doing great at all that calls for your attention, starting with your precious self. It’s always a pleasure to have you here. I don’t take your presence for granted, thanks for returning.

Right, this is not to be forgotten! We have come to the end of the 2023 elections, and I believe we have every cause to be thankful no matter the outcome. This isn’t the time to give up or sit back, it’s rather a call to keep praying for our nation, that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

We checked out a topic last week which we will be observing from a different lens today. I strongly believe that all through the week, you were able to stand your ground in standing for the right cause at all times. The darkness gets thicker by the day, but the good news is that the light that you are can dispel the darkness in a split second. Just keep at it and you’ll reap the dividend.

Today, we’ll be taking another route to the same destination; THE RIGHT SIDE. As we live and walk on earth daily, we are faced with a huge personal responsibility that serves as the very baseline of all our actions- MAKING A DECISION. This concept provides a foundation for every little or big thing that we do.

Making a decision could be as little as the choice of a route to take when going somewhere or as much significance as our choice of relationships and associations. You decide who gets into your inner space and who stays at arm’s length. These daily choices of ours lead to an end that can either be for our good or otherwise.

At this point, I’ll have you meet a certain Bible Character who you must have met countless times before. And if you haven’t, it’s fine, you’re still in the safe zone. Behold our Character for the day- the man named Moses.

From being in children’s class and all, we know the story of this man. I for one believe that Moses is a very wise man. Imagine a man sitting all day to settle cases between thousands of people, and giving a fair judgment at that! What’s your assessment of such a man, he’s wise abi? I thought so too.

At a time, Sir Moses had his father-in-law come over to visit, and the old man witnessed Moses presiding over issues from morning till night, he was moved with concern to ask what all that was about. Moses told him what he had to get done. Then, the man gave a reply which I’ll put in my own words.

“Wow, you mean you have to settle disputes between these large numbers of people all by yourself? Ah, you are going to wear yourself out at this rate o, and the people will get tired easily as well. For how long do you want to keep up with this? This is too much of a task for you to handle alone, Man of God”.

“See, here’s what I will advise you to do. Keep representing the people before God. You can’t delegate that, it’s your sole responsibility. But you see this dispute-settling affair, I’ll advise that you select honest and God-fearing men to be in charge of the people. Divide them into groups and let the men take care of their issues”.

“When there are matters that are beyond the men’s power to handle, they can bring such cases to you. By doing that, you won’t be bearing the burden of this great assembly alone. If you can follow this counsel and if God commands you to do it, you will be free from a high level of stress and the people will be happy too. It’s a win-win situation for all”.

Hmmm, what a wise counsel! There is a huge possibility that Moses never thought about this before and it took a close relative to open his eyes to see how he could get his task improved without being overstretched. Imagine what would have become of his health if that advice never crossed his path!

Well, it’s one thing to get wise counsel and another thing to yield to it. Moses was in no doubt doing what was required of him, but he got a piece of advice that changed the course of things for him positively. I am certain that there were other things he could have spent his time on rather than sitting all day settling disputes. Even if he’s to take a rest, it’s a big plus!

Sir Moses could have picked that advice, shredded it into bits, and discarded it in the bin. He could have been like “there is no need for me to delegate my responsibility to people, I would rather handle it all by myself. Who does this old man think he is to give me this kind of advice? I am on the right path already, this contribution is needless”.

After all, he is Moses, the one with whom God spoke face to face as with a friend. But the man knew better, he was wise enough to know that this counsel can mark a huge difference in his assignment. He knew that this counsel could enhance his health and help him stay focused. Take a pause here, then scroll up to read the scripture that’s written in bold in the first paragraph. What do you see?

I think it’s time to carry out a self-assessment. Think about the effect your everyday decisions have on your person. In the past few days to weeks, where have your choices landed you? Do you think you could have been in a better position if only you took a wise decision?

Hey, you are not an island of knowledge! Yes, you are very wise and people even refer to you as a sage. However, don’t be quick to throw away or ignore the voice of reason. You can’t afford to always form “Mr(s) or Miss Right” or claim “I am always right”.

Is there a point where you see the need to take to a correction? Receive it with genuine appreciation and act on it. You are surrounded by great and blessed minds through which brilliant ideas flow. You have a good plan, but someone in your space has a great plan that he or she is pushing to you, will you go for it?

Finally but most importantly, get God involved in your decision-making process. Let Him be right at the centre. When your choices revolve around Him, you will always be safe. With Him, be confident in knowing that you can never go in the wrong direction.

I hope you had a nice time reading this. Thank you for staying with me on this post, I expect your comments and feedback. Till I write you again, stay happy and healthy.
