STEPS ‘N’ FORWARD

by themirrorandreflections

“No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians 3:13, NLT).

Good day, fam. I am actually very excited as I type this, but I’ll conserve the energy till next week Tuesday. There are songs in my head right now, but I’ll save that too. We are going to sing all our songs next week. For now, let me welcome you back to this space with a smile. Thanks for always being here, and I mean it. Thank you, a million and one times!

Hmmm, steps ‘n’ (and) forward! This is one personal topic, borne out of a couple of discussions and chats I had during the past week. In the spirit of making evaluations and doing reviews, you have to share your experiences with people sometimes and receive insight. This could significantly mark the beginning of the change you are looking forward to.

In the past few weeks, we have been addressing yearly reviews. But there’s something I haven’t mentioned. It sometimes takes courage and readiness for a change (always) to get an evaluation done. You need that courage because fear arising from building tension can discourage you.

In the whole review process, there could be a time when we feel left behind. This is the time when questions like “what have I been doing with my life?” come up. Our eyes are opened to see precious opportunities that have not been channeled into wise use, and we get so angry with ourselves.

It’s safe to say that this process has two main results. The first is being challenged to do better, and the second is the resolution to settle, resign to fate, or keep patching things up. It’s this second that I will be dealing with in today’s post. And just before you make that decision to tend towards the second, I have a message for you.

Hey, that eye-opening moment you had is a blessing! Yeah, I know you might not feel like it because you feel disappointed at the moment. But, for real, you are so blessed to have come to that realization that there’s a need for change. And if that light has come to you, then you should also know that it isn’t a wise decision to choose to sit with the error. No dear, you are not going to make that mistake!

In the past week, I was talking to a friend and she made a statement that has never struck that hard in my ears before. She said, “God said He created you in His image, and you are there dulling”. It felt like I was hit with a heavy object when that statement was made, whatttt!!!

Rather than choosing to settle, I think it’s high time you moved on from the mistake. You can’t keep blaming yourself forever. You can’t keep wishing you had done things differently. You can’t go back to that day or moment, you can’t go back to the past. What you have right now, is today, and a bright tomorrow to look forward to!

You need to understand that sitting and brooding in regrets is not something that God would have you do. If your times are in His hands, then trust that better days lie with Him as well. But first, let go of the weight on your mind.

Yes, you want to take a step forward! However, you can’t do it with all that burden from the past. If there’s any business that you have with the past, it’s to be grateful that there’s room for improvement, pick the lessons and run with it. Don’t allow looking back to slow you down.

You seem to be at ground zero, and you are about to climb up the stairs. You have to keep taking a step forward to get to the 100th stair. That’s where the prize is! You can’t reach for the prize from zero point, you need to make a forward move.

“But what about the opportunities I have lost?”, you might ask. I’m glad to tell you that there are many others around you. However, your eyes can only be open to seeing them when your vision is not clouded by what did not work. You are not without help, you are surrounded!

This is for someone that is really finding it difficult to let go. I pray you find strength and peace, I pray you experience comfort and joy in the One who bears you in mind at all times. I pray you no longer see your mistakes, but you have a call for praise. You see a bigger and better you, and you drive in that direction.

Thanks for coming on this journey with me. I’ll see you on the last Tuesday in 2022💃. Till then, stay strong!
